As a fitness professional and strength & conditioning coach, I have the blessing and the privilege of walking with many on their journey. Each journey is unique, but all start with a desire for change that leads them down a path of transformation. Transformation means something different for each person. For some, transformation means body composition changes, improvements in health, and/or improvements in how they function in daily tasks. For others, it is reaching a new level of fitness and performance. Regardless of the journey, one common denominator is the mental transformation that takes place along the way.
This week I was overcome with emotion as I saw many with whom I’m a part of their journey achieve milestones that were once thought out of reach. All week I heard the exclamation “I didn’t know I could do that!” It’s a beautiful thing to see the realization of “I can and I will to do this!” in someone’s eyes. By daring to step outside of their comfort zones, a new mental state in which all things are possible is being developed. I want to say how proud I am of those who have achieved and are achieving!
It is important for all of us to challenge ourselves in ways that spark personal growth and development. Look at the different facets of your life (i.e. exercise, relationships, nutrition, spirituality, organization, career, finances, etc.) and identify areas in which you would like to improve. Then, seek out resources (books, support groups, experts, etc.) that can help guide you to a better you. As you strive for your goal, you’ll find that along the way you will learn a lot about yourself! Then you’ll say to yourself, “I didn’t know I could to that!”
